![]() Born and raised in Western Sydney, 22-year old Clarissa Mei is an all-round musician, singer, songwriter and producer of Filipina and Dutch descent. She is no stranger to the limelight having performed from a young age at various events including debuting her own original sound at The Plot Festival, Secret Garden Festival, Women in Music Empowerment Day and various community and cultural events such as the annual Filipino Fiesta in Western Sydney - just to name a few. Clarissa's latest video clip 'Confidence' just dropped recently, which is honest, relatable and vulnerable (and also happens to be the title of her EP) - and after just one rotation, encourages listeners to do the same. The combination of her raw lyricism, natural and mature vocals, fluency in music production and instruments (particularly the keys), create a dreamy, 'feel-good', neo-soul vibe. The cinematography by Maxed Out Films is the 'icing on the cake' with its visual aesthetics complementing the overall vibe of the track. Its mood is perfectly balanced by its warm to cool tones. The context of being indoors (in a house or building) is symbolic to the central theme of the song - parallel to the feeling of being enclosed in a state of sheer timidity. Moreover, the video clip is a dichotomy between the lyrics and the visuals. On one hand, the lyrics depict the message of dealing with the issue of self-confidence, and on the other hand, it illustrates the beauty of being honest with oneself and being openly vulnerable, which in essence is courageous and self-empowering. The carefully deliberate compositions between close-ups, foreground framing, and creative play with space and distance develops an empathic and almost tangible experience for the viewer. This is definitely one to add to your playlist! Clarissa is no doubt an artist to watch, so be sure to check out her 'Confidence' video clip below, listen to her Vulnerable EP (available on all your favourite digital music platforms) and follow her on her socials: Instagram: @clarissamei Facebook: Clarissa Mei Music Website: www.clarissamei.com |
